Born in Tokyo, Japan, Sayuri started playing piano at age 3 by imitating her mother's students. She studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music Preparatory school, and then she came to the United States to study at the New England Conservatory.
Sayuri studied with Gabriel Chodos for her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, and with Patricia Zander for her Master of Music degree. During that time, she performed concerts in Japan and Boston.
In 1994, she started working at Boston Higashi School for autistic children, out of her passion to help children through music. Later, she moved to Maryland to attend the University of Maryland to study further. While in Maryland, she was an original member of the Annapolis Chamber Players, helped to start a high school chamber music program, and taught general music at Indian Creek School while also teaching private lessons and performing. She has been teaching private piano continually for over 35 years.
She currently lives in Seattle with her family, where she taught general music in the Bertschi School for 8 years, and is currently the director and owner of Creative Minds Music Studio. Her studio also provided after-school lessons at the Villa Academy from 2017 - 2020.
